As mycologist and philosopher Paul Stamets famously said, “We are all children of the mycelium”
Mad scientist, yogi, and life-long musician, Dr. Kostas Alexiou is an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Tampa, where he teaches courses such as Creativity & Innovation and Business Model Development. Formerly a founding member of the iconic hybrid electronic/jamband Papadosio, Kostas took a long hiatus from producing music to pursue his PhD and career in academia. Following his promotion & tenure at the University in early 2024, Dr. Alexiou decided it was long past time to launch a new venture, not only for his own personal desire to create and perform music again, but also for intellectual renewal and growth as an educator of entrepreneurship & innovation. Thus, mycildren was born as a project proposal for his sabbatical in the Spring of 2025.
Kostas has always been interested in the hybridization of things, a topic he has published numerous peer-reviewed research papers on, in some of the top academic journals in the field of management & entrepreneurship. True to his roots, Kostas identifies artistically as a hybrid of an old-school guitarist raised on a healthy dose of Trey Anastasio and Jerry Garcia and a post-modern electronic producer. For the past decade, Kostas has traveled the world in search of the best dance music on earth. From the jungles of Tulum to the clubs of Ibiza & Mykonos, Dr. Alexiou brings a global citizen mentality to his music, infusing elements of various cultures, dance music styles, and philosophies with his roots in psychedelic rock and acid jazz to create mycildren’s unique brand of medicinal mushroom house.
